A Catholic Confession App?

It’s pretty shocking when you read in a news article that there is now a Catholic confession app on the IPhone. I always thought there was a huge divide between the two; religion being more traditional and of course technology being incredibly dynamic. However, is this a sign that religion is now wanting to become ‘at one’ with technology to increase popularity?

“Our desire is to invite Catholics to engage in their faith through digital technology. Taking to heart Pope Benedict XVI’s message from last years’ World Communications Address, our goal with this project is to offer a digital application that is truly ‘new media at the service of the word. We hope many more will take advantage of this new confession resource”

Although i can understand the diversity that Apple apps have, i still find this app a little silly. It’s description, to me, sounds as if it’s a tutorial on how to ‘confess’ at church. Afterall, the app can’t really give you it’s verdict so why not go to church and confess appropriately? And another problem, what if someone gets their hands on your phone and sees your so called ‘sins’. I personally think an app like this is just a waste of space. I would to love hear your opinion though. Feel free to drop a comment.
